Traditionally, male monograms are in all caps, single row format (FIRST, MIDDLE, LAST) or a diamond monogram with the last name initial larger in the center.

We also love the square monogram for boys! Female monograms traditionally are placed in the order of the woman’s first name initial, last name initial larger in the center and middle or maiden name initial last. If you are unsure if the friend goes by her maiden or middle name in her monogram just ask her! Or else just go with her first name on the item.
